About Vacuum Discharge Tubes |

Although the Crookes Y tube rarely is seen in textbooks, museums, or collectors' catalogs, it was nevertheless a very important vacuum discharge tube design for Sir William Crookes, which he used to demonstrate that the origin of cathode rays is the cathode, or negative element, of the vacuum tube, and that these cathode rays proceed from that negative electrode regardless of the location of the anode, or positive electrode. This handsome vacuum discharge tube stands 18 inches high in its finished hardwood stand and is made of top-quality Pyrex glass. The tube is properly evacuated to give the original colorful visual effects when high voltage is passed through it.
