Lodge Syntonic Leyden Jar Oscillator |
About Static Machines | About Leyden Jars |
Our Syntonic Oscillator is modeled after the original experimental apparatus devised by the wireless pioneer, Sir Oliver Lodge. Use it to demonstrate experiments that explain the basic principles of the production and reception of electromagnetic waves.
This Lodge Syntonic Oscillator offers a classic wireless transmitter and receiver system in two handsome units. The wireless transmitter contains a keyed power transformer, a pair of Leyden Jars, a spark gap, and a tunable antenna system. The wireless receiver uses the same circuit as the transmitter (without the keyed power transformer) and features a bank of neon bulbs connected across the spark gap. These bulbs light up when wireless signals are received, and the brightness of the bulbs reflects the quality of the tuning achieved. This tuning can be altered by adjusting the antenna length or by changing the distance between the receiver and transmitter units, and the bulbs shine most brightly when the receiver and transmitter are properly tuned to each other.
