The Spartan is our basic broadcast crystal radio receiver (550–1700kHz, with some 40m shortwave reception after dark). Its antique mahogany box and antique headphones, as well as original vintage dial, slider, switch points, and other original fixings lend this receiver classic elegance. This receiver's original circuitry ensures good selectivity and sensitivity. Comes with cat's whisker, galena crystal, and complete instructions. To help beginners get used to crystal radio operation, a mini–amplifier and operating instructions also are included.

Price: $225.

Kit available for $175. The kit comes with coil already wound and front panel assembled. You finish the wood and do the wiring. You will need a soldering gun, solder, sandpaper, and wood finish. You will need to solder, read electronic schematic diagrams, and make a simple wire antenna and ground. Building and operating instructions are included.
